Our Process

With Each Step Forward, We’ll Support Your Unique Journey

At Capital Surrogacy, our gestational surrogacy process adheres to best practices in the surrogacy field but also takes into consideration the unique requirements of our intended parents and surrogates. Whereas the process and procedures maintain a safe and efficient journey, we believe that no two journeys are alike. For this reason, our agency will customize the details of each journey to the parties’ needs and support a positive outcome.

We hope you will take this life-changing journey with us at Capital Surrogacy. Each stage in the process is one step closer to fulfilling your vision of having a child by surrogacy!

Finding great surrogates during the process

We go to great lengths to find the most qualified surrogates. After all, finding surrogates that meet clinic requirements and that feel passionate about helping to build your family is key to a successful and fulfilling journey and process. We get to know potential surrogates through in-depth phone interviews, questionnaires, and a thorough home visit. To further validate, independent third party experts perform background checks on potential surrogates including all adult household members. A medical pre-screening and an insurance policy review are also completed for all candidates. To make sure all candidates are truly ready for a surrogacy journey, a mental health professional specializing in Assisted Reproductive Technology and surrogacy completes a psychological screening.

Getting to Know Our Intended Parents

We want to learn as much as possible about your expectations for the journey, including your preferences for the ideal surrogate. A free consultation with Capital Surrogacy will help us learn more about what brought you to surrogacy and to see if Capital Surrogacy is a great fit. Our focus is to match you with a surrogate that has similar goals for the surrogacy journey. For this reason, we ask our intended parents critical questions that will guide us in securing a successful match. For instance, are you seeking a surrogate that is close geographically? Will you be present at the embryo transfer? Are you interested in a dual embryo transfer to have multiples? Will you choose genetic testing if recommended by the OBGYN? We will ask the crucial questions at the beginning so that you don’t have to later in the journey.

Selecting an IVF Clinic or Donor Egg Program

Early on is the best time to select an IVF clinic or donor egg program if you haven’t already done so. We will recommend resources based on priorities and financial considerations. Shared risk programs at larger clinics are available and may be a good option bringing a level of financial security to the journey. And of course, we will work closely with your selected IVF clinic to help coordinate the IVF cycles with the surrogate.

The Match

Intended parents and the surrogate will first exchange written information as an introduction to one another. For the next step, we will facilitate a video conference between the intended parents and surrogate (and her partner, if applicable.) After the video conference, we will ask you to provide candid feedback. We want to know what you think and to freely accept or decline the match. Ultimately, you know what feels right so if we need to look further, it’s not a problem. We want you to feel completely comfortable with your decision.

Surrogacy Agreement

Intended parents and surrogates have independent legal counsel to help them understand the surrogacy agreement and more general legal issues in the journey. The expectations for the surrogacy journey will be outlined in the surrogacy agreement – a contract between the intended parents and the surrogate that guides the journey. The surrogate’s compensation will be detailed in the agreement. Nicole White of the Kinsey Law Group is Capital Surrogacy’s professional partner and works hand-in-hand with us in representing intended parents. We will help the surrogate select an attorney in the surrogate’s state of residence to represent her.

Cycling and Pregnancy

Your surrogate completes the embryo transfer and is pregnant! We share in the joy and help the surrogate and intended parents in many ways – following the surrogate’s medical appointments, assisting with reimbursements and compensation, navigating insurance, providing support and encouragement. We ask that you not hesitate to seek our assistance throughout the pregnancy. We will provide the needed answers or connections to critical resources immediately.

Getting Ready for Delivery

This can be an anxious time and we will help prepare for the baby’s arrival in a number of ways. We will draft a birth plan that includes detailed expectations for the hospital delivery and stay. The intended parents and surrogate agree on the birth preferences in advance. Also, the legal team files documentation with the court that establishes parentage and ensures that the intended parents’ names are on the birth certificate. For international clients, we assist with the legal documents and the passport needed to bring your baby home.

Welcome Baby!

This is undoubtedly one of the most unforgettable days of your life, also unforgettable for the surrogate as she watches you holding your baby for the first time. We will never miss this moment either, whether we are there with you in person or communicating with you by phone. We are on call for anything you may need in the moment or afterwards. We will then follow the case for 6 months post-delivery, supporting you until your baby comes home and making sure that the surrogate recovers fully.

Fair warning, we love pictures and will be asking for as many as possible!
